Recommendations and tour rules
As the museum is a public space and open to all types of visitors, we have written some good practice guidelines so that everyone can enjoy their visit. These must be complied with and anyone who does not do so may be asked to leave the premises by museum or security staff. These rules have been established to preserve the works of art and ensure the safety of our visitors. Please help us to protect our shared heritage.
● No animals are allowed inside the museum, except guide dogs. Visually-impaired visitors may be accompanied by a guide dog but no other animals are allowed inside the Museum.
● It is forbidden to smoke inside the museum.
● For security reasons, umbrellas, backpacks, sports or travel bags, suitcases, large bags and food and drink are not allowed inside the exhibition halls.
● We will start asking people to make their way out of the halls 15 minutes before closing time.
● In the event of an emergency evacuation, you must follow the museum staff's instructions at all times.
USE OF DEVICES:
● You may take photographs with the flash turned off and film for private purposes inside the exhibition halls. Professional photography and filming must be requested and authorised in advance.
● The use of tripods and selfie sticks is not allowed.
● Please put your phone on silent and speak quietly for your own benefit and out of respect for other visitors.
BEHAVIOUR:
● Visitors must be polite and respectful and follow the rules for sharing a public space.
● Please do not run or shout in the rooms in order to avoid accidents and not disturb other visitors.
● Children are welcome at the museum but please ensure they stay close to you and do not misbehave. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
● Please do not touch the works of art on display, either in the exhibition rooms or in the common areas. They are fragile and can be easily damaged.
● If you see any damage to a work of art, please do not touch it, but inform a member of staff. We really appreciate your collaboration.
● In the event of an evacuation, you must follow the instructions of museum staff.
● Anyone disrupting the normal progress of visits will be asked to leave the Museum.
GROUPS:
● We offer a guided tour service for groups of visitors of all ages. If group leaders cannot or do not wish to use this service, we ask them to be extremely vigilant about the behaviour of all members of the group. Groups of more than 10 people or groups who have hired shared transport are required to give advance notice.
● Group visits must be booked in advance. Contact us for more information (contact us link).
● Groups must respect the times on their booking confirmation.
● If you have requested a guided tour and are unable to make it, please cancel as soon as possible as this will avoid unnecessary travel for our guides who run the activity and will allow other people interested in the tour to book a place.
● In order to ensure the security of the collections, each group should always be accompanied by a leader. The group leader must identify him/herself.
● Groups must wait outside while the leader completes the entry process. In case of rain or special circumstances, the Museum staff will allow you access to designated waiting areas.
● Groups and group leaders must follow the instructions of museum staff at all times, including waiting in a particular room due to capacity rules.
● Groups should be calm and respectful to other visitors when moving through the museum rooms and speak quietly.
