Schools
The Department for Education and Cultural Action (DECA) of Fundación Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino invites teachers and students to visit us during the school year.
We have prepared a programme of activities for your visit based on guided tours and creative workshops adapted to each level of education, from the 2nd year of primary school to the 2nd year of the Bachillerato course, including the separate classes that some schools have for children with special educational needs.
Our guided tours cover both the history of the iconic Castillo de la Luz, the home of our Foundation, and the permanent exhibition by the famous sculptor Martín Chirino.
The tour designed for our youngest visitors focuses on the castle and especially pirates, cannons and the purpose of each room while it was a fortress (e.g., where the prison was, where soldiers climbed to the top to watch out for possible attacks by corsairs, etc.). When looking at the works of art, we talk to pupils about the basic concepts of Chirino’s work, such as wind, iron and spiral patterns.
As the average age of the tour group gets older, we are able to delve deeper into the history of the castle and its stages of construction, as well as the significance of this ancient fortress for our city. With regard to Martín Chirino, we analyse the meaning of his work in more depth, talking about the importance of curves in his work, the concept of tricontinentality and more.
Throughout the school year we offer the chance for pupils to participate in Creative Workshops related to the guided tour, as this provides an opportunity for them to learn more about the content of the visit and have a different experience in an educational environment.
We’ll let you know if there is a temporary exhibition on in our centre on the date of your visit so you can consider booking a guided tour with your students.
