Certification and Authentication

The authentication of artwork by Martín Chirino is a collaboration between Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino and the artist's estate. In principle, a certificate of authenticity will not be issued unless the artwork has been physically examined. In exceptional circumstances, a certificate of authenticity may be issued without the need for a physical examination. This will only occur if the work has already been duly catalogued in the records of both the foundation and the artist. The artist's estate is the sole owner of the moral rights of the artwork. As such, when a work is identified as unauthentic, the artist's estate will initiate the appropriate proceedings, applying for the work to be seized and destroyed.

How to obtain a Certificate of Authenticity:

Send the following documentation to Fundación Martín Chirino:

  •  All information and documents relating to the provenance of the work.

  •  If the work is not duly catalogued in the foundation's records, you will need to request in writing a meeting with the foundation to organise an examination of the work. At this meeting, you will need to present a valid passport or national identification document and a photocopy of the presented document.

  • As soon as we receive said photographic documentation and after examining the work and the foundation's records, we will write to the person who requested the certificate to inform them of whether the work is authentic or not.

  • If the work is authentic, the foundation will send an invoice to the person who requested the certificate of authenticity. The cost of a certificate of authenticity is €1,000 for sculptures, €500 for drawings and €300 for graphic artwork and multiples. Payment for a certificate of authenticity must be made to: Account holder: Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino IBAN: ES78 0049 2958 15 2714 3163 81 (BSCH)

  • Upon receipt of payment, the foundation will produce the certificate of authenticity and send it by certified post to the person who requested it.

None of the photographic documentation or correspondence received during the authentication process is returned to the sender, and it becomes the property of the foundation. The foundation will only issue the original certificate of authenticity. No copies are produced.

All correspondance and documentation must be sent by post to:
