Like every year, we celebrate the Night of the Museums with the doors opening until midnight, and this year we have a special performance by the timplist Germán López inside the Castillo de la Luz.
The Castle of Light becomes once again a musical stage for the Night of the Museums, the permanent exhibition will be open from the usual closing time until midnight, and we will have a special concert by Germán López, accompanied on guitar by Antonio Toledo, with passes at 8, 9 and 10 p.m., with free entry until capacity is reached.
German López
He was born in Gran Canaria in 1983. From an early age he began to perform in public, being selected for various competitions for young talents. In 2006 he released his first solo album: “Timplissimo”, produced by Jose Antonio Ramos. From that moment on, he began to perform concerts throughout the Canary Islands and the Peninsula, highlighting the legendary “Café Central” in Madrid, where he presented his second solo album “Silencio Roto”, produced by Andreas Prittwitz. He participates in the recording of a live CD and DVD “Homenaje a Totoyo Millares”, in addition to the project “La Noche de Jose Antonio”, a tribute made to his teacher since he was five years old, José Antonio Ramos. Together with the prestigious guitarist Yul Ballesteros, he recorded two albums (“Somethin Stupid” and “Don't Worry Be Happy”), in which the melodies of Canarian folklore merge with pop songs by Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Sting... He has collaborated with significant groups and projects from the Canary Islands, such as Mestisay, with whom he recorded his album “Atlántico Radio” and “En Busca de Valentina”, or Luis Morera y Taburiente, with whom he continues to collaborate today. After participating in the “Opening Concert” of Womex in Santiago de Compostela, in 2014, he began his international journey touring countries such as the USA (seven times), Canada, Germany, China, Korea, Portugal, Czech Republic, Croatia, Senegal , Cape Verde, Mauritania, Turkey, Serbia, Poland, Jordan, Spain.... He has released five solo albums (“Timplissimo”, “Silencio Roto”, “De Raíz”, “Canela y Limón” and “Alma”); two with Yul Ballesteros (“Something Stupid” and “Don't Worry Be Happy”); a project with other timplistas (“Timples and other Small Guitars of the World”) and an album with the Gran Canaria Big Band (“Imaginando Folias”), nominated in 2022 for the Canarian Music Awards. He has collaborated with artists and groups such as Pancho Amat, Milladoiro, Troveros de Asieta, Jorge Pardo, Mestisay, Taburiente, Celina Pereira, Sidiki Diabate, Andreas Prittwitz, The Lost Fingers, Santiago Auserón, Paquito D'Rivera, Sole Giménez, Seckou Keita, Cheche Alara, Luis Conte or Nancy Vieira, among others. In 2022 Germán López signs for the Virgin Music label (Universal). Germán López is currently focused on promoting his new album “Alma”, produced by the prestigious producer from Los Angeles (USA) Gregg Field and where musicians of recognized national and international prestige such as Lila Downs, Richard Bona, Aymée Nuviola, Jorge Pardo, Antonio Serrano, Josemi Carmona, Alain Pérez, Israel Suárez “Piraña”, Carlitos del Puerto, Gregg Field, Seckou Keita, Cheche Alara... In terms of recognition for his musical work, Germán López was named “Roque Nublo al Folklore” by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria in 2017. In 2023 he was awarded the “Golden Spike” by the Agüimes City Council and is named “ Favorite Son” from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. “Alma” receives the award for “Best Roots Music Album” at the Canary Islands Music Awards in 2023.
