Alberto Gil Cásedas presents "29,761 Psychogeographic abstraction for the work of Martín Chirino" in the Sala de la Luz

29,761 Psychogeographic abstraction for the work of Martín Chirino proposes a vision of the urban territory of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria based on walking as an artistic practice, linked to the routes taken on foot between the Foundation and the five geographical points where the public sculptures are located by Martín Chirino in the city. Thus, “Alfaguara (2)” (1997), “Lady Harimaguada” (1996), “Raíz (36)” (1965-1966), “Jano (2)” (2019) and “El Viento (84)” ( 2003) become the destinations of the urban drifts drawn on the geographic map of the city, the total number of steps taken being the title of the exhibition. As if it were a flâneur, the meticulous accounting of the steps taken by the artist in each of the journeys through the city is illustrated in a series of pieces on paper as labyrinths, in which their own resolution alludes to the path morphology. This détournement is also transferred to the exhibition space: five works located in the room, in reference to their positioning in the urban plan of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria of each of Martín Chirino's public sculptures, the result of the reinterpretation of each one of the labyrinths and the aesthetic and material language of the works of Martín Chirino. 29.761 proposes an experience inviting you to walk, observe and reflect that inspires visitors to consider the meaning of their own journeys in daily life, recognizing the beauty and complexity of the environment that surrounds us.
