Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino announces the Martín Chirino Artistic Residency. One of the Foundation’s main strategic lines is to foster dialogue within the arts, aimed at garnering international exposure for our islands, one of the key objectives enshrined in our articles of association. Martín Chirino’s work offers a first-rate legacy for contextualising and promoting the valuable legacy of island culture in today's complex world. In a tiered dialogue perfectly aligned with the aforementioned aim, this contextualisation encompasses: Martín Chirino, the Canary Islands and the World. In keeping with the Foundation’s goals, we have organised the Creators 2024 artistic residency programme for artists in any discipline. Now in its fourth year, the programme has been opened up to artists of any nationality who are residents of Europe.

AIM

·       This programme offers support for talent and contemporary creation, seeking to further the professional development of artists in need of a space to work and technical and educational support.

·       Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino promotes this programme, which is open to artists in any artistic discipline, offering a space for artistic creation through an art residency in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria consisting in awarding a scholarship for accommodation and living expenses.

The project also strives to:

·       Increase the visibility and outreach of Martín Chirino’s work and legacy and of the context thereof.

·       Promote the creation of contemporary art based on identity and culture as a frame of reference.

·       Foster appreciation for the conservation and spread of the tangible and intangible natural and cultural heritage of the Canary Islands through contemporary art and the work of Martín Chirino.

·       Contribute to the creation of a contemporary art collection for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by donating a work of art to the Collection of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

·       Organise seminars and meetings with the chosen person so that the general public can take part in the creative experience.

DETAILS OF THE RESIDENCY

·       The residency consists in a three-month stay (from July to September 2024) in which to develop a project that will be placed on display in the Sala de La Luz space organised by the Foundation for such purpose.

·       Accommodation and educational and work space.

·       3,000 euros in financial support for production costs.

·       The Foundation will cover travel expenses, documentation and health/accident insurance during the residency period.

·       Living expenses (€ 900 gross per month) will be met by the Foundation.

·       The chosen artist will display the progress of their work to the public and agrees to participate in activities organised to introduce their work to the public during the residency period on dates to be determined by the Foundation.
