Our resident, Abraham Riverón, has continued to shape his project, ARGAMASA, during these summer months after intense research work and methodical analysis that will result in the exhibition that we will inaugurate in December of this year. Remind you that this project was chosen last May within the CREATORS 2023 program of the MARTÍN CHIRINO ARTISTIC RESIDENCE Program (organized in collaboration with the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).

In these months of residency, the artist investigates these fortified spaces through the warlike and historical elements that define them to understand the role they play today. Spaces such as the Castillo de San Francisco, Castillo de Mata or the Castillo de la Luz itself, where the Martín Chirino Foundation is located, are the starting point to understand how these spaces are built, what their uses and states are, their materiality and monumentality. , and how these fortifications can be taken as allegories of current problems for contemporary artistic creation.
In addition, he also works on how the fortifications are linked to the monument. Both in how castles themselves become monuments of certain milestones, and in the way in which sculptures end up inhabiting these spaces. It is the example of the work 'El Alisio' by Martín Chirino, located next to the Castillo de Santa Catalina in Santa Cruz de La Palma or the work of the sculptor present in the Castillo de La Luz.
