The Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino is holding the second edition of the meeting La voz de la mujer (The voice of women) this Thursday 13th March. An event with which the Foundation highlights the transforming role of women in the cultural construction of the Canary Islands and celebrates the unique contribution of women in the community and cultural fabric of our society. The conference La Voz de la Mujer, organised by the Martín Chirino Foundation and coordinated by Dácil Manrique de Lara, will bring together this Thursday in the Castillo de la Luz, at 18.00 hours, three women cultural professionals, cultural managers who have been significant in their respective fields such as: Alejandra Galo, Irene Sanfiel and Elena Acosta, who will share their experiences and reflections with the public attending the event, which will be moderated by Raul Ramos Monzón.
The aim of this second edition of La voz de la mujer is ‘to promote a dialogue that, without losing sight of our history, allows us to visualise a shared future where women's contributions are not only recognised, but enhanced within the framework of an egalitarian and diverse culture’, explains coordinator Dácil Manrique de Lara, director, producer and editor in film, advertising and video art.
With this meeting on the role of women in culture and its protagonists, the Fundación de Arte y Pensamiento Martín Chirino aims to contribute to creating a platform for dialogue and reflection on culture and its evolution from an inclusive perspective; to generate concrete actions that promote gender equality in the arts and culture in the Canary Islands; and to encourage and strengthen collaboration between institutions, artists and communities in order to build a more equitable cultural ecosystem.
The conference on The voice of women in 2025 opens on Thursday 13 March at 18.00 with the presentation of an interdisciplinary panel with the interventions of Elena Acosta, cultural manager and researcher, specialist in art and museology and former director of Casa Colón, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Irene Sanfiel, artist, cultural manager, specialist in art and sustainability, director of La Pinochera, Cine Rural de Canarias, artist at www. zireja.com, artistic director at www.lamadremonte.com, and advisor in art and sustainable cultural management at www.abonar.es; and Alejandra Galo, cultural manager and producer specialising in giving visibility to female talent in the arts, and director of HER Festival, https://herfeministfestival.com.
Elena Acosta, Irene Sanfiel and Alejandra Galo will have 20-minute presentations in which there will be time to hear their reflections on culture as an instrument of change from their professional experience, and the role that women have had and still have in their respective fields. At the end of the presentations, there will be a debate with the audience.
