La Fundación Martín Chirino inaugura la exposición ‘El Paso. Vanguardia y compromiso’

The Castillo de la Luz hosts until August 31 an exhibition with works by the members of this movement, which included the Canarian artists Martín Chirino and Manolo Millares, the avant-garde with international projection of the second half of the twentieth century.

The Martín Chirino Foundation of Arte y Pensamiento inaugurated yesterday, at its headquarters in the Castillo de la Luz, the exhibition El Paso. Vanguard and commitment. An exhibition project under the curatorship of Jesús M. Castaño, director of the Martín Chirino Foundation for Arte y Pensamiento, which offers a new perspective on this groundbreaking movement that led an unprecedented aesthetic and plastic renewal in the second half of the twentieth century, and made possible the international success of its protagonists.

The exhibition that will remain open to the public until August 31 brings together works by the artists who participated in El Paso at the Castillo de la Luz: Rafael Canogar, Martín Chirino, Luis Feito, Juana Francés, Manolo Millares, Manuel Rivera, Antonio Saura, Pablo Serrano, Antonio Suárez and Manuel Viola.

This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the financing of various public institutions such as the Government of Spain, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and, above all, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Likewise, private aid such as the contribution of the "la Caixa" Foundation through CaixaBank and the DISA Foundation. El Paso's opening ceremony. Vanguardia y Compromiso, held this Thursday, was attended by, among other personalities, Horacio Umpierrez, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Canary Islands Government; Guacimara Medina, Minister of Culture of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria; Inma Medina, Councillor for Public Services and Carnival of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Olga María del Pino, head of Social Action at Caixabank, Territorial Directorate of the Canary Islands; Sara Mateos, director of the DISA Foundation; Jesús M. Castaño, director of the Martín Chirino Foundation of Arte y Pensamiento and curator of the exhibition; and Marta Chirino, president of the Martín Chirino Foundation of Art and Thought.
